The EFGH National Championships bring Singapore’s fastest athletes to the same start line, racing head-to-head for the country’s most prestigious distance titles.

On this stage, speed, strategy, and resilience decide who stands at the top of Singapore’s marathon ranks. Who will etch their names in the record books?

SOUTHEAST ASIAN (SEA) GAMES PROVISIONAL SELECTION TRIAL

This year, for the first time ever, the EFGH National Championships – Marathon will serve as an official SEA Games 2027 provisional selection trial for the marathon event, for both male and female categories.

The Top 3 finishers for each EFGH National Championships – Marathon category will be selected for the provisional SEA Games 2027 nomination squad*. Final selection is contingent on meeting official SEA Games 2027 qualifying benchmarks and at the sole discretion of Singapore Athletics. Learn more here.

It is mandatory for all aspiring marathoners who intend to participate in the upcoming SEA Games 2027 Marathon Event to participate in the EFGH National Championships – Marathon.

Selection Pools

For each EFGH National Championships race category (Marathon and Half Marathon), the fastest 15 male and 15 female athletes will be selected from separate gender-based selection pools, for a total of 60 athletes.

Participants aged 35 and above will automatically qualify as Masters athletes. As such, the Marathon category includes both Open and Masters athletes.

Who Can Take Part?

The EFGH National Championships are open only to athletes who meet the qualifying standards. Selected athletes are not required to pay a registration fee.

Entry Requirements

  • Open to Singapore citizens only
  • EFGH National Championships – Marathon Qualification: Qualifying times (based on net time) must be achieved at a World Athletics and/or AIMS course-measured race of 42.195km
  • EFGH National Championships – Half Marathon Qualification: Qualifying times must be achieved at a World Athletics and/or AIMS course-measured race of 21.0975km
  • Results must fall within the 18-month qualification window from 1 March 2025 to 31 August 2026
  • Athletes must express interest to Singapore Athletics by submitting their identification documents, race category, and proof of qualifying performance within the qualification window for verification to Singapore Athletics’ Qualifying Submission Form by 1 September 2026
  • Athletes must comply with World Athletics guidelines, including race conduct and anti-doping regulations
  • Singapore Athletics will send the registration links for the EFGH National Championships to the final list of selected athletes by 1 October 2026

Exclusive Benefits

Eligibility for Prize Money
Competing in the EFGH National Championships gives athletes the opportunity to earn official national recognition and claim the prize money awarded to top performers, recognising their achievement at the highest level of local competition.

Podium Award & Recognition
A commemorative award will be presented to podium finishers in addition to prize money and individual race entitlements.

Designated Hotel Accommodation (Marathon Category)
Athletes competing in the EFGH National Championships – Marathon category will be provided with a 1-night stay at a designated hotel. Rooms will be shared with another athlete of the same gender.

Race Day Transport (Marathon Category)
Athletes competing in the EFGH National Championships – Marathon category will be provided with transport from their designated hotel to the start village and back from the finish village, ensuring convenience and comfort.

EFGH National Championships Pen Access
Athletes will start from the dedicated EFGH National Championships Pen.

Priority Start Wave
Athletes will be flagged off in a dedicated start wave after the Professional Field category, and before the General Start Pens. This will separate the EFGH National Championships Start Pen from the main field, ensuring a clear course at the start of the race.

Elite Station Access
Athletes who are competing in both the EFGH National Championships (Marathon and Half Marathon) will receive access to Elite Stations along the race course, offering race-official support beyond the standard race aid stations.

Special Race Bib
Athletes will be issued a distinctive EFGH National Championships race bib, setting them apart from the rest of the marathon field.

Elite Athlete Zones
Athletes will have access to Elite areas and the Elite Call Room at the start venue, providing a comfortable and focused pre-race environment. After the race, athletes can recharge in the Elite Lounge with food, beverages, and a dedicated recovery space.

Dedicated Baggage Transfer
Athletes will be provided with baggage transfer service to transport their belongings from the start venue to the finish venue for convenient post-race collection.

Pre-Race Technical Briefing
Athletes must attend the pre-race technical briefing that provides key information and insights to support their optimal race preparation.

2027 Campaign Talent
2026 podium winners may be selected to feature in the 2027 nationwide promotional campaign, giving athletes national exposure and recognition.

FAQs

Is the Marathon category for both Open and Masters athletes?

Yes. The Marathon category includes both Open and Masters athletes. Participants aged 35 and above automatically qualify as Masters athletes, but they remain part of the overall Marathon category.

Are the selection pools a mix of genders?

No. The selection pools apply separately to male and female athletes. This means 15 male and 15 female athletes will be selected for the Marathon category, and 15 male and 15 female athletes will be selected for the Half Marathon category.

If I meet the qualifying times, am I guaranteed entry?

Meeting the qualifying standard does not automatically guarantee a spot. The championship field is limited, and final selection is subject to both Singapore Athletics and the organiser’s discretion.

Which races can I use to qualify?

Qualifying performances must be achieved at World Athletics and/or AIMS-certified courses. For more information, please refer to this page. Net times are accepted.

What documents must I submit to be considered?

Athletes must submit the following to Singapore Athletics:

  1. Proof of Singapore citizenship
  2. Race category they intend to enter
  3. Official results certification within the qualification window (1 March 2025 – 31 August 2026)

I’m a Masters athlete. Can I compete in both Open and Masters categories?

Yes, athletes may qualify for multiple categories and prizes are stackable for the EFGH National Championships – Marathon category. Standings will also be recorded across both categories.

I want to participate in a different distance than I qualified for. Is this allowed?

No. You can only participate in the distance you qualified for at a World Athletics and/or AIMS course-measured race.

Is this race open to international athletes?

No. The EFGH National Championships are exclusive to Singapore citizens.

What happens if I miss the qualifying window?

Only performances within 1 March 2025 to 31 August 2026 are considered. Late submissions will not be accommodated.

Do I have to register as an EFGH National Championship athlete?

Entry is free. Selected athletes will be sent a registration link from Singapore Athletics.

Can I qualify for prize money if I run the BYD Singapore International Marathon presented by adidas, but I am not part of the EFGH National Championships?

No. The prize money from the EFGH National Championships are eligible only to the selected field of qualified athletes.
